Gretchen Barretto doesn’t want her daughter to enter showbiz for now

Gretchen Barretto was very certain with her answer when asked if she would allow her 15-year-old daughter Dominique to enter showbiz. “No, no, no, no! No showbiz for her. Tama na ang nanay, ha ha ha!,” she laughed as she told reporters during the launch of her Greta perfume under Bench. Gretchen explained that she and partner Tony Boy Cojuangco are both firm on their decision to have their daughter finish her studies first before they allow her to pursue other interests including showbiz.

But Gretchen revealed that Dominique is already getting numerous showbiz offers. “May mga offers pero angmanager ayaw pa, ha ha ha!,” Gretchen pointed to Bettina Aspillaga, her road manager from Boy Abunda’s Backroom Inc. The actress added, “We’ll give it time, siguro mga few more years pa. For now gusto ko mag-aral muna ‘yung anak ko.”

For now Gretchen prefers to be the only one going through the demanding and sometimes tiring schedule of showbiz. After her top-rating primetime teleserye Magkaribal, the actress-fashion icon is now gearing up for a follow-up drama to begin production next year. This time around she will co-star opposite onetime enemy-turned-newfound friend Angelica Panganiban. “Nakatuon ang attention ko ngayon sa bagong teleserye ko with Angelica Panganiban. Pagkatapos ng holidays magsasanay na kami lahat for whatever we need. I’m looking forward to working with Angelica and the same team of Magkaribal.”

Gretchen’s Magkaribal leading man and Angelica’s real life boyfriend Derek Ramsay will not be part of the newteleserye. “Hindi na si Derek ang leading man. Hindi ko pa alam kung sino. Mag-story conference pa kami, anddun ko lang malalaman kung sino ang possible na maging leading man and ‘yung iba pa naming makakasama. Wala pa akong maisip na artista pero lahat naman ng nasa ABS-CBN gusto ko magkaroon ako ng chance na makatrabaho.”

Gretchen said she will take advantage of the holiday season to rest and enjoy before work begins in 2011. Since the new teleserye will be her top priority, her other projects like an album and a movie will have to wait. “Napag-usapan na ang new album ko for next year. Pero right now hindi pa ‘yun ang pinaka-immediate na gagawin ko. Uunahin namin ‘yung teleserye because minamadali na kaming lahat ng management na masimulan ‘yun. ‘Yung movie mukhang hindi ko pa maipapasok sa schedule ko kasi pagkapasok ng bagong taon puno na agad ‘yung schedule ko. ‘Yung movie baka ma-delay nang konti.”
