Director Wenn Deramas defended his film Ang Tanging Ina Mo, Last Na ‘To against the offensive Twitter posts of Alfonso Martinez, son of Albert and Liezl Martinez. Alfonso was deeply disappointed that Rosario, a film directed by his father Albert, was snubbed at the Metro Manila Film Festival awards where Ang Tanging Ina won most of the awards. On his Twitter account, Alfonso called Ang Tanging Ina a “brainless, shallow, slapstick” and even used the profane F-word to make his point.

When Push.com.ph interviewed Direk Wenn during the victory party for the movie, he even cracked a joke, “Ikaw mumurahin kita, hindi ka ba masasaktan?!” The director explained that no one has the right to insult someone else’s work most especially if it was a product of blood, sweat, and tears.

Though deeply hurt by 23-year-old Alfonso’s Tweet, Direk Wenn had decided to be the understanding and patient adult in this situation. “Of course, nasaktan ako.

After the issue spread like wildfire, Liezl immediately posted on her Facebook account a public apology to Direk Wenn. The director said he doesn’t blame Albert and Liezl for what happened and that he understands Liezl doing her maternal duties.

Direk Wenn explained that he should not be blamed if the MMFF judges gave him the Best Director trophy and not Albert, and the Best Picture award to Ang Tanging Ina and not to Rosario. He said he is willing to forgive Alfonso should the latter apologize. But Direk Wenn advised him to be more careful with his words from now on.

Direk Wenn said that this will be the last time he will speak about the issue so as not to create a rift with Albert and Liezl. “Tapos na ang lahat. Hindi na ako magsasalita pa. Maliit ang industriya para magaway-away pa. Ayokong maapektuhan kami nina Albert at Liezl.”
